How present in the moment are you?

Hello and welcome back. Thank you as always for joining me on this incredible and sometimes challenging journey.

It is very easy for us to be caught up in our thoughts and our emotions. The world we live in is often very busy, with work, family, studies, friends and so on that we can often go for long periods without being fully present in the moment. When you are with family, friends or co-workers are you truly listening with your entire being or is your mind running quietly in the background with a story to share or a commentary around what you are hearing?

How often are you taken over by the emotions and thoughts that arise? Many people are unable to separate themselves from an emotion once the energy is in our field. Learning to be present and aware that an emotion such as anger or sadness has arrived is the beginning of becoming aware in the moment. By becoming aware you can acknowledge the emotion is there without allowing it to take you over.

Someone may make a comment to you that you may feel hurt by. If you are not present your mood, demeanour or outlook may now be consumed by this hurtful feeling. This energy has now taken control. If you are present however, you will feel and acknowledge that the hurt is there. You can then utilise various tools to help release this energy.

The same goes with our thoughts. Our mind is often in a constant chatter mode. Pay attention to your mind as you drive, do dishes or washing, or the thoughts that arise as you wake up for the day and get ready to go out. Have the thoughts taken you over with worry or stress? Are you operating from an automatic pilot mode while living in your head?

By being present you become aware of the thoughts that arise and you can realise they are also an energy form that no longer needs to take control. If you mind is consumed with worry you become disconnected from Divine Creator source. Your thoughts are as powerful as your words. They are energy forms and what you give out is what you attract back.

The more that you can remain present in each moment, the easier life becomes as you can navigate the emotional and mental energy forms as they arise. Life will flow better as you are now connecting to your authentic self, the Creator Source within, rather than being taken over by or consumed by an emotion or a thought.

We are spiritual beings having a human experience, so part of this life is experiencing a range of emotions. The question is what do we do with this emotional energy that arises? Thankfully there are many ways we can address and release the energy. I believe it is important to acknowledge the feeling or thought. A good cry or screaming into a pillow is

always one way to release some of this energy. Writing in a journal is another way of

expressing and releasing. There are then of course my favourites which is to ground by connecting to our beautiful Mother Earth with bare feet. Our beautiful sunshine which helps to clear the aura and uplift our mood. Time in nature, time being creative or perhaps a meditation to calm the mind, body and soul. Deep breathing is another very useful tool. Focus on the air coming in and out as you take slow deep breaths.

For the next few weeks, I would suggest paying attention to each moment. Can you feel emotions as they arise? Are you aware of your thoughts? Are you truly listening to others as they speak to you? Practice with some of the suggested tools mentioned above and see if this makes a difference in your day-to-day life. Also remember you are an entire body, not just the emotion you carry or the thoughts in your head. Give you body attention. Can you feel your feet on the ground, your hands on the steering wheel, the rain or shower water on your skin?

I highly recommend “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle. This is a book I read over 20 years ago, and it made such a positive impact on my life with teachings I have embraced and continue to do so.

You are incredibly powerful and being present in the moment is a key to awakening your awareness and connecting further with Divine Creator Source so that we are no longer carried along our life journey with our emotions and thoughts leading the way.

I wish you much love and light and look forward to the next post.
